What is Meetango ?
Meetango is a community where you inform WHAT YOU WANT TO DO – such as watch a movie, go to a rock concert, an art exposition – and meet someone to go along with you. In short, it is all about your future and planned activity streaming..
You receive notifications about what your friends want to do as well as from people in your area. And you can also invite someone to do something.
Add Meetango contact to your MSN, Gtalk or any other instant Messenger and receive the notifications and messages without even having to log into the website.
Meetango makes real life meetings easier, connects people with common interests to do things together, always focusing on fun, friendship and even dating.
How does it work ?
- Inform what you want to do and find someone to do it with you
- Know what your friends and other people in your area want to do
- Invite someone or be invited to an activity
- Meet people with similar interests in a real environment
- Find inspiration about activities and places to go
- Receive notifications on your MSN, Gtalk or other Instant Messenger
How can I inform my activities ?
Go to "MY MEETANGO", click on "I WANT" field and:
1 - Type the desired activity, with the maximum of 140 characters. (Ex: "see Spider Man 3")
2 - Add related Tags, keeping them apart by commas. (Ex: spider man, movies)
Optional Information:
3 - In case you wish to set a "specific time" and "date", select "date" and pick the date through the calendar, as well as the time through "combo"
4 - If you wish to invite only your friends for the activity, select "friends only"
5 - If you wish to change the city, click on the existing city and select another
After informing an activity, you will be able to receive messages from people who want to join you, as well as invite people to do it with you. Other facility offered to you by Meetango is to receive notices (by e-mail or instant messenger) on who wants to do something similar to you (based on the Tags of your activity or your area), increasing the chances of meeting companion to do it.
How can I invite myself to someone’s activity ?
Next to each activity created by the user there is a "JOIN IN" link. By clicking on this link, a window will open and you’ll be able to write a message showing interest in the activity. In this case, you’ll have to use Meets (points of the website) to send the message.
How can I invite only one person to an activity ?
Go to the profile of the person you wish to invite and click on "INVITE ME". After that, you’ll be able to select one of your already created activities (public activities) or create an activity especially for this person (private activity). For this, you’ll also use Meets.
Tip: in order to have a successful invitation, besides observing the person’s activities, also see his/her Tags on "My interests" related to this person.
How can I add Meetango to my MSN, Gtalk, Yahoo Messenger, AIM or Jabber ?
After login, click in "SETTINGS" and then in "MY INSTANT MESSENGER". In this page, select your instant messenger, and inform your e-mail related to it, and then click on "SAVE CHANGES". Right after this, a Meetango contact will appear related to that. Add it to your contact list of your instant messenger, as you do it to insert new friends.
We cope with basically all main instant messengers available (MSN, Gtalk, Jabber, AIM, ICQ and Yahoo).
How can I receive notifications about activities from my friends and others ?
Each user has a link "KEEP TRACK OF ME". By clicking on this link, you’ll receive notifications on the new activities created by this user through:
- Instant Messenger (MSN, Gtalk, Yahoo Messenger, Jabber, AIM, ICQ)
- Site: to access the users that you have wished to receive notifications go to "MY MEETANGO" and click on the link "WHO I KEEP TRACK OF", located below your photos.
On "MY MEETANGO" select how you wish to receive notifications by selecting instant messenger or e-mail, below your My Interests’ tags
By adding someone as a friend, in case your request is accepted, this link will be activated automatically and you will receive the notifications of new activities of this person as well.
How can I stop receiving notifications about activities from a user ?
Go to the user’s page and click on "DON’T KEP TRACK OF ME".
How do I know who keeps track of me ?
Go to "MY MEETANGO" and click on the link "WHO KEEPS TRACK OF ME", right below your pictures.
How do I setup notifications about the people who have activities similar to mine ?
After logging in, click on SETTINGS, on the top right. On this page, click on "NOTIFICATION". There you can define the profile of who wishes to receive this notification. Profiles of 18 to 100 years old, with your same sexual option and residing in your city are selected as default automatically.
The criteria of similarity among activities are yours Tags. If someone creates an activity and adds at least one similar Tag to yours, the activities will be automatically classified as similar. For expired activities, the system is deactivated.
You can also check out who has similar activities to you by clicking on "SIMILAR ACTIVITIES " related to one of your activities.
How to add someone as a friend ?
Go to the user’s page and click on "ADD AS A FRIEND". After that, you’ll have to wait for his/her approval. When you add a user as a friend, you are automatically going to receive his/her notifications on new activities. If you don’t want to receive these notifications, click on "DON’T KEEP TRACK OF ME" related to this user.
You can see your friend’s list on "My Meetango". If you want to remove some friend from your list, click on "REMOVE FRIEND" related to that user.
How to see the activities that:
- I want to join
- I was invited
- I privately invited someone
Go to "MY MEETANGO" and click on "MY MESSAGES" or click on the link that informs you about your new messages on the top part of the site.
In this area, the messages you have sent and received are grouped according to the following types of activities:
I privately invited: Activities that you invited only one user to join (private activities)
I was invited to: Activities that other users are inviting you to join
I want to join: Activities that you wanted to join
I want: Activities that you’ve posted in "I Want " (public and just for friends activities)
By clicking on an activity’s title you’ll see the activity description and right below it all the messages related to it, in chronological order and sorted out by sent and received. You can also order the messages according to user, selecting this option on the combo on the right.
What are the Meets for ? How do I get them ?
"Meets" is an internal currency where users use them to interact with others aiming to make activities together.
How to gain Meets:
- By signing up on Meetango (50 meets)
- Logging in the site (20 meets per day)
How to lose Meets:
- To invite someone to your activity (5 meets per invitation)
- To join someone’s activity (1 meets to join in)
How to block a user ?
Go to the user’s page and click on "BLOCK". After blocking this person, he/she won’t be able to send you messages and invitations, as well as he/she won’t receive your notifications on new activities.
The blocked user won’t be notified that he/she was blocked by you. In case you change your mind, just click on "UNBLOCK".
How to report a user ?
Go to the user’s page and click on "REPORT ABUSE", located on the right side, below his/her picture. The report will be looked into it and if necessary, the user will be deleted.
Remember that you can also block a user if you don’t wish to receive any more messages from him/her.
If you identify a user sending Spam or with inappropriate content (vulgar, prejudice or inciting violence), please let us know so we can keep the high quality of the site.
Can I edit an activity already posted ?
No. Once an activity is created (public or private) you can’t edit it, only delete it. After this, you won’t receive any more messages related to it.
I’ve been receiving too many messages in my MSN, Gtalk, etc. or in my e-mail. How can I reduce this ?
You can stop receiving notifications from some people. Go to "My Meetango", click on "WHO I KEEP TRACK OF", located below the pictures, and after on "DON’T KEEP TRACK OF ME" related to the desired user.
How can I update my profile ?
After login, click on "SETTINGS", on the top part of the site. In this area, you can edit your pictures, profile and account, among other things, by clicking on the related items on the left.
What does "POKE" mean ?
If a person hasn’t posted any activities for a while in the site, you can send him/her a teaser clicking on "POKE", located on the user’s page. This "POKE" will reach him/her by e-mail, informing that you want this person to create an activity.
Can I personalize My Meetango webpage, changing the colors and the background ?
Yes, but our layout is the best. Go to SETTINGS and MY LAYOUT. There you can modify your wallpaper and the colors of many items of your page: frames, links and texts.
Can I add Meetango to my blog/site ?
Yes. Go to SETTINGS and MY STICKER. You may add the Meetango widget in any place that accepts flash, JavaScript or HTML. You can also customize it in order to best adapt to your blog/site.
Is there an API for Meetango ?
Yes, you can find it in the bottom menu of the site called API.
How can I cancel my Meetango ?
Go to SETTINGS and after REMOVE MY PROFILE. This way you won’t be a part of Meetango anymore. Keep in mind that once deleted, your username will be available for others to take, so it may not be available to you in case you wish to come back.
How do I invite my MSN, Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo or AOL contacts ?
After logging in, click on "INVITE FRIENDS" on the top right side of the website. Select the e-mail provider you want, inform your e-mail and password and click on "CHECK NOW" as if you were logging in this e-mail account.
After that, select the contacts you wish to send the invitation to Meetango and click on "Invite". Whoever accepts your invitation will be automatically inserted in your friend’s list, and you will receive notifications on their new activities.
Will Meetango keep my MSN, Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo or AOL password ?
No. Meetango uses a robot programmed only to show the e-mail addresses of your contacts related to the e-mail providers above. It doesn’t store your password nor the addresses found in our database. In other words, we don’t have access to you data nor to your contacts.
How can I check if my friend is already part of Meetango ?
There are two ways of finding out if a friend is already part of Meetango:
1) Type in the name of the person in the field "SEARCH PEOPLE", located on the right side of the webpages. If you wish to have a more advanced search for users, select "advanced search" and use the filters available.
2) Click on "INVITE FRIENDS", on the right top side. Select the e-mail provider you wish; inform your e-mail address and the password related to it and click on "check", as if you were accessing this e-mail account. Next to each contact a "YES" will appear in case it’s already a Meetango member.
Take the chance and invite your friends who are still not part of Meetango by clicking on "INVITE".
